I was trying to think of a clever title for this post. I failed. Anyway, I just wanted to say I finished the second Thes book, All Wrapped Up, on Monday and sent the book to the editor last night.
I started the book on June 22, 2015 and finished July 13, 2015. So 21 days? I also missed a few days because of some holiday stuff, but I’m still plenty happy with that. I was worried I wouldn’t get it done for an August release, but I’m confident that won’t be a problem. You know, because the book is written.
I actually just looked up how many days I sat down and wrote the book. I worked on it for 13 days which seems about right.
This is where you might be asking yourself two questions. How did he write it so fast? And is it any good?
I have no idea if it’s any good, though I’m sure the editor will tell me. She’s pretty good about things like telling my work is dross that needs fixing. Heh.
But the how is easy. I sat down on June 22 and wrote my story idea. It was about 6 sentences or so about what I wanted out of my book. Then I wrote an outline with about 2 or 3 bullet points per chapter. I know I usually write 1500-2000 word chapters on a first draft so I knew I wanted about 30 chapters.
That done, I used Chris Fox’s “5,000 word per hour” application for IOS. I set my timer for 10-20 minutes, depending on how much time I had. I wrote for the entire time. For those keeping score, I write about 3k an hour give or take a couple hundred words.
I did this for about an hour to an hour and a half a day. Even when I didn’t feel like it. Even when the first chance I got to write was at 9:30 PM at night. After the first day, my process changed slightly.
I got up in the morning and edited everything from the day before. This takes me about 30 minutes or so. Sometimes, this was all I was able to do in a day. I do this because by the time I finish my first draft, it’s really the second draft. Mwa ha ha.
I finished my last chapter on Monday and put it in a drawer for the rest of the day.
Last night, after everyone went to bed, I re-edited the entire manuscript. It took a while. So now it’s third draft and hitting the editor’s desk.
You’ll be able to buy it August 24, 2015. Awesome!
